actOUT! offers a great opportunity for children to:

  • explore their curiosity about the theatrical arts

  • build a healthy self-esteem

  • develop many life-long skills

We work hard to provide a safe, supportive, and positive environment.

actOUT! is the place to go in the Waterloo Region for non-competitive theatre experiences for children in the theatre arts. Every actOUT! program is designed with fun in mind. We build confidence in young people through dramatic play, theatrical activities, and a supportive, inclusive environment. actOUT! welcomes children and youth from diverse backgrounds.

Classes include:

  • Acting Adventures (5-9)

  • Theatre Skills (9-12)

  • Improv Academy (8-12)

  • Acting for Youth (10-14)

Participants can join as late as the second class.


Acting Adventures

Ages: 5-9 years

Eager to act and looking for dramatic fun? Start here! This fun class will help build confidence and provide a foundation in acting, ending with an original short performance!

Our actors will:

  • play drama games and build skills

  • explore improv

  • contribute to their original class performance with creative ideas

  • learn basic script work

  • use costumes and props to enhance their acting

  • and have fun!

No experience required - beginners welcome!

Performance: The end-of-session performance will happen during the last class. Actors will be dropped off first to prepare and the show will begin 30-45 minutes later. Family and friends are welcome. Instructors will communicate any additional details if needed.

Ages: 9-12 years

This class will focus on character acting, movement, script work, and developing focus onstage. There will be a short performance at the end of the session.

Our actors will:

  • play drama games and build skills

  • explore improv

  • contribute to their original class performance with creative ideas

  • assist with script writing

  • learn basic script work

  • improve their acting skills

  • explore dramatic movement on stage

  • use costumes and props to enhance their performance

  • and have fun!

Improv Academy

Ages: 8-12 years

At Improv Academy, actors will have a blast experimenting on stage, learning and practicing core Improv skills.

Actors will develop their ability to work together on stage in exciting ways. There will be a short performance at the end of the session.

Acting for Youth

Ages: 10-14 years

This class will focus on character acting, movement, script work, and developing focus on stage. This may include short scenes or monologues. Participants will be expected to read and discuss scripts/scenes, learning lines independently between classes. There will be a short performance at the end of the session.

No experience required. This is an older age group, however, and we recommend that 10-11 year-olds with no previous drama experience try our Theatre Skills class first.

Performance: The end-of-session performance will happen during the last class. Actors will be dropped off first to prepare and the show will begin 30-45 minutes later. Family and friends are welcome. Instructors will communicate any additional details if needed.
