The cover of actOUT!’s Playbill is an hommage to Playbill Magazine the New York theatre program with the familiar yellow band across the top that began publishing in1884, when Frank Strauss turned a simple handbill into a magazine. Nearly every Broadway theatre and many off-Broadway and out out-of-town companies now use Playbill. It is synonymous with Broadway theatre. On July 1st, 2016 Playbill removed the borders around the logo and cover art for most Broadway programs, the first major design change to the iconic magazines in more than 40 years. ActOUT! honours the late 20th Century design.
