She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition

By Qui Nguyen

A comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games. She Kills Monsters tells the story of high schooler Agnes Evans as she deals with the death of her younger sister, Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and ’90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.

Please Note: Unlike our other productions which are simply first-come first served, the Advanced Actors production is an auditioned production.

This means that we will hold auditions for the production in November and we will cast our show based on the audition. However, though we look to create a quality cast, we are looking for maturity in our actors more than ability. Meaning; we are looking for a cast willing to work and that can be trusted by their peers that each actor will do homework and 'bring their game' to the rehearsal hall.

She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc., a Concord Theatricals Company.

The Empathy Project

Developed by actOUT! Written by Company.

The challenge of the experience of understanding another person's thoughts, feelings, and condition from their point of view, rather than from one's own. Empathy brings from within prosocial and helping behaviors breeding compassion.

empathy (n.) first appears in print in 1908, modeled on German Einfühlung (from ein "in" + Fühlung "feeling"), coined by German philosopher Rudolf Lotze (1817-1881) as a translation of Greek empatheia "passion, state of emotion," from assimilated form of en "in" + pathos "feeling".

But what truly is Empathy?

ActOUT!’s Collective Creation: The Empathy Project

A ‘Collective Creation refers both to a particular historical practice that defined a crucial stage in the development of Canadian drama in the 1960s and 1970s, and to a collaborative method of playwriting that is still widely practiced. A collective of actors, a director devise a creation as a group, with the aid of playwright & dramaturge.

Challenging the actor to develop as creative artist, producing a performance expressing authentic experience of the actor-creator.

A collective creation of derived theatre based on the theme of ‘Empathy’ created by the company of actors of actOUT! culminating in a tour of Waterloo Regional schools and local festivals.
