2017-2018 Workshops

ActOUT! Workshops offer a great opportunity for children to:

  • explore their curiosity of the theatrical arts
  • build a healthy self esteem
  • Develop many life long skills

All provided in a safe, supportive, nurturing and positive environment.

ActOUT! is the place to go in the Waterloo Region for professional coaching, mentorship and team building in the world of theatre arts. 

Programs are available in various commitment levels to suit your child's needs, experience, interests, families available time and financial ability.  

Every actOUT! workshop is designed with fun in mind. Through theatre games, playful activities and a supportive, inclusive environment we build confidence in young people through dramatic play and theatrical activities.

All enrolment for actOUT! workshops is done through camp monster. Registration will open on August 11th.

 

 

Our Fall 2017 program includes:

Class: Drama Basics

Ages: 3.5-6 years

An excellent opportunity for your young child to join others to explore and experience their natural joy of using creativity, imagination and their bodies to explore the world around them.  Each week we cover one or more letters of the alphabet and learn our drama-related words all year long. Various forms of stories, folk tales, poems, songs, and plays will be explored through music, movement, props and imagination. 

  • Day and Time: Wednesdays 5:30-6:15 pm
  • Tuition:  $125 (September to December)
  • Location: St. Andrew’s Church (Queen/Weber).

Dramatic Elements 

Ages: 7-11 years 

New to theatre training or just want to do some extra skill building?  Want to act but don't know where to start?  Want to touch up on some skills? Join us for this fun program that will help you grow your confidence, insight and begin or build on foundations previously explored through performance art. This fun class will help you build your confidence, insight and give you a strong foundation in acting. In this course actors we will fully explore a variety of theatrical elements, including exploring how feelings create an emotional connection in acting (how you feel when you are happy, sad, mad) and teach participants this way is a safe way to explore them and apply them to performing various characters. Reviewing dramatic foundations as needed, participants will be exploring improv, drama games and working towards memorizing their script work.

Playwriting

Ages: 10-17

What does it mean to get words to the page? How does a writer build character, drama, dramatic tension and plot? For all budding young playwrights, this supportive writer’s group will include low-pressure writing exercises intended to stimulate and develop skills for life. In class assignments and readings will be supported through take-home exercises. Basic formatting of plays will be taught.

Musical Theatre Dance Technique

Ages:10-17

This class is designed to offer dance basics to improve musical theatre movement in every aspect. Choreography can push actors in a way that they crave. It offers a sense of pride when they learn new material and a feeling of accomplishment when a new dance or movement is mastered. Designed to take the absolute beginner in their first steps in musical theatre.

Outward Actors

Ages:10-17

This workshop is for actors that crave a challenge. Through scene study and monologue work actors learn how to build a role and to develop their inner-monologues. Audition preparation and solo performance is augmented through a supportive group environment and opportunities to actOUT!. The Outward Actors will also look for opportunities to perform ‘guerrilla theatre’ when time and space allow, doing ‘pop-up’ plays in found and public spaces.

  • Location: St. Andrew’s Church (Queen/Weber).
  • Enrollment cap 20 
  • (Enroll via registration, no audition or pre-requisite level, however it is suggested that participants have had some other workshop or performance experience. Previous experience is not required, but recommended.)

Saturday Morning Drop-in/Drop Out Improv

Ages: 6-17

Improvisation is an important tool in the actors toolbox. Being able to think quickly on one’s feet and act/react to others performing with and around you is a skill transferable to all of life, not just time spent in the theatre. Our Saturday morning improv workshop will feature theatre games and improv activities designed with fun in mind, but with the ability to get our young actors thinking quickly and having fun. This is a drop-in drop out class meaning your child can come and go at any time of the day. Flexible programing will make this a fun Saturday morning for all.
